The link above takes you to a website that is soliciting donations for our friend Dennis Davan's family.
Here's what Dennis' son-in-law, David Evans, wrote:
I'm sure many folks are looking for support after the devastating Hurricane Sandy hit NYC. I'm looking to help my wife's family, whose homes were ruined by the storm surge. Our cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandfather all live in Rockaway, Queens, more specifically in Belle Harbor and Breezy Point. You've probably heard a lot about these areas as the news has covered them extensively.
In Breezy, our cousin, who has a baby and a young child lost their house. Our aunt and uncle, who's in the FDNY had a huge portion of their home destroyed. In Belle Harbor, our grandfather, also pictured in the FDNY had his home flooded, and our other uncle (also in the FDNY) had most of his home destroyed and was trapped in the house with his two daughters with rising water most of the night. All in all much of our family lost so much and I'm hoping some amazing folks online can help them. They've spent their entire lives serving the NYC community - whether its putting their lives at risk to put out fires to helping on 9/11 - they've been there for us, and now I hope we can rally together for them.
I'm asking for $5,000. I'm not sure if that's a lot of money or not for this cause and if it's even reasonable, but I know it would go a LONG way for them as they rebuild.
Thanks for the support...
Dave
