You can send faxes to your state assembly member and senator - just search in the APP store for NYSUT MAC and download the app. Then, in mere moments, you can let your representatives know where you stand on important issues facing communities, educators, and children. You have the opportunity to speak up and out about APPR, Common Core, the tax cap, the governor's budget...
This past weekend Jennifer Zopp was the 1st female, and 9th overall finisher in the Sleepy Hollow Half Marathon, with a finishing time of 1:23:03!
The Aides Unit of the BTA held elections last week and the results are in!
Noreen Herber is now the chairperson of the aides unit, and Marcia Bailey is the new secretary. I look forward to working with this new leadership team to most effectively represent our BTA aides. The delegates whom we elected to the NYSUT Representative Assembly (Christina Reidel and Mandy Gersten) and I have decided to endorse the Stronger Together slate who are running for leadership of NYSUT.
To read my endorsements, see these websites: http://www.strongernysut.com/ http://strongernowstrongertogether.org/ It's time to start planning for our Second Annual BTA family day at the Rockland Boulders.
This year, Saturday, June 14 the Boulders play the Trois-Rivieres Aigles at 6:30. We'll tailgate in the parking lot before the game. Start letting me know how many tickets you'd like. Tickets are approximately $15 each and include the tailgate party (complements of the BTA) and the fireworks show after the game. What a great event last Friday's luncheon was!
Thanks to Glenn Stockton and to all those who made desserts. Thanks to all those who donated to the Food Bank of Westchester. Thanks to Jeff Zuckerman, Clare Gorman, Linda Orsenigo, and Tony Manganiello for continuing, even in their retirement, to support our fundraiser and our Chris Lockwood has found a chartered fishing boat out of New Rochelle that can take a bunch of BTA members (and their friends and family) out on a sunset fishing tour from 5:00 - 9:00 on a Thursday night this spring (maybe Thursday, May 29). The cost would be in the range of $35-$50 per person (depending on how many people we get).
Are you interested? Let Chris or me know. This really looks like a lot of fun! NYSUT launches $1.5 million media campaign to demand:Don't freeze out our kids!
NYSUT is on the air with a statewide multi-media campaign to make the point that the Bad-News budget being pushed by the governor and Senate will freeze out our kids. The TV spot, radio ad and related media all make the point that: their disastrous tax freeze would force schools to make more cuts, big breaks for the rich only compound the problem, and public schools and colleges need to be priority one. Take action RIGHT NOW at the NYSUT Member Action Center by telling legislators our public school students shouldn't pay the price for favor-the-rich tax breaks and back-door voucher deals!
Dear BTA and Clerical/Health Staff,
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks for the gift certificate to my hairdresser…a very clever gift idea! You have my deep appreciation for your thoughtfulness and generosity. I feel fortunate to have worked with such professional, warm and considerate people. All my best wishes to each of you. Love, Susan |
