 Thank you for joining us in our celebration of the BTA's retirees: Maryellen Mullin-Yonkers, Marcia Sklar, Anthony Angotta, Ginny Martin, and Carole Lockwood (and also Susan Williams, who could not attend the dinner). What an awesome night to celebrate the year that was, our strong solidarity, and our camaraderie. Thanks, again, to our party planners - Frank Viggiani and Dana Landesman! We had an awesome time Saturday evening with Jeff Zuckerman and Clare Gorman, Ginny and Ed Martin, Marcia and Howard Sklar, the Lockwoods, Zhanna Cabrera (at her first baseball game, ever), the Marrons, most of the Ryans, Mandy Gersten, Katie Brosnahans, most of the Gillen-Leddys, Matt Fisher, Greg DiStefano and his Dad, Vicki Kriess and her family, 3/5 of the Reidels, the Figueroas, and Lisa Britvan and her little dog, Diva. We ate some of the most delicious burritos and watched the Boulders win with a walk off home run in the bottom of the seventh (Can Am League rules for double headers) and some fun fireworks.

Susan, true to form, walked across the finish line. Susan's Sisterhood, raised over $7.000 . Thanks to Ms. Heidi Menzel who got us going. NYSUT is launching a new web ad today to celebrate the hard work and dedication of our teachers and to make it clear that, to their students, teachers are far more than just test scores. Watch real students talk, in their own words, about the affection, admiration and respect they have for their teachers. Watch and share our new ad at the NYSUT Member Action Center, and listen to real students explain why their teachers are more than just test scores! More and more, lawmakers are trying to measure the value of New York state's teachers by the results of flawed and unfair high-stakes tests. But tests don't measure our love of teaching. Tests can't assess all the long, extra hours our teachers put in every week. And tests will never account for the passion, commitment and dedication we have to helping each and every one of our students reach their full potential. Watch and share our new ad at the NYSUT Member Action Center, and listen to real students explain why their teachers are more than just test scores! Students get it. It's time for us all to help lawmakers understand, as well. A teacher is more than a test score. Tell lawmakers to #evaluatethat.
