Tarrytown Learning Center

8/27/2014

I received this recently from Marc Laffer, the regional staff director at NYSUT's Tarrytown Regional Office.  It's worth checking out!

I would like to introduce a new program we will be doing in the Tarrytown region during the upcoming school year.  As an organization, NYSUT has placed a strong emphasis on professional development.  In Tarrytown we are continually looking for opportunities to provide our members with training relevant to their professions. With that in mind, we have created the Tarrytown Learning Center (TLC).

The TLC is set up to conveniently provide you with seminars that will enhance your work experience and give you the tools necessary to become the best that you can be within your profession.  The seminars will be set up in conjunction with the NYSUT Education andLearning Trust (ELT).  With 30 years’ experience, the ELT is the go-to choice for high-quality professional learning with experienced, classroom-tested instructors.

Through the TLC, we have scheduled 35 seminars, beginning in September and continuing through April.  All seminars will take place at the Tarrytown Regional Office and begin at 4:30 PM.  The seminars were selected because of their broad appeal to the NYSUT members in our region.  The first round of TLC seminars primarily addresses the needs of teachers and school related professionals.  We hope to expand our offerings in the future.  While class size will be limited, you are welcome to attend as many seminars as you can fit into your schedule.  It will be necessary to charge a $10 registration fee for each seminar to cover the costs of materials but you should know that some of these sessions could cost as much as $800 if you were to schedule the same program at your worksite.

Attached to this e-mail is the TLC brochure, listing all of the seminar offerings and the seminar descriptions.  Please note that some seminars are specifically for a targeted group such as primary teachers, secondary teachers or school-related professionals.

The registration for all seminars will be done on-line.  The link to register is:

http://www.nysut.org/eReg/TLC

That link is also listed on every page of the brochure.  All registration will be done on-line and on a first come-first served basis. You can pay using a credit or debit card.

In  addition to sending you this e-mail, all local presidents will receive a printed brochure in the mail.  Our hope is that you forward this e-mail to all of the members of your local.  In addition, upon request, we can send you printed versions of the brochure.  Unfortunately, we will not be able to get the printed copies to you for the start of school.

I encourage you to take advantage of this great program and please encourage your members to participate.
