This video was created by our brothers and sisters from the Yorktown Congress of Teachers. It addresses the need for teachers to speak up about Common Core. Congratulations, Shara Oliman!
Taylan Seth Oliman was born on Friday, November 8th at 9:05 AM. He weighed in at 6 pounds 11 ounces and is 18 inches long. Shara and Taylan are doing wonderfully. Big brother Nathan and big sister Lila are so proud (as is dad)! ![]() Here is a photo of two of our retirees, Linda Orsenigo and former BTA president Andy Cahn. Here is what retiree (another former BTA president) Jeff Zuckerman had to say about the event honoring Andy as volunteer of the year: "Today, Clare and I and Linda Orsenigo had the great pleasure of attending a breakfast at the magnificent Tappan Hill Mansion honoring Andy Cahn and a few others for their extraordinary volunteer efforts. Andy's award was for Nonprofit Board Member of the Year. The entire morning was magical, and we clearly knew we were in the presence of greatness with the recipients of these awards. ... When you read about what Andy is up to, you can get a glimpse of all that is possible in our retirement years. What an inspiration!" Click here for a link to the write-up about Andy's work as a volunteer board member. From NYSUT:
Deeply concerned about increased standardized testing of the state’s youngest students, NYSUT this week joined with other education advocates and launched a petition calling for a ban on standardized testing for pre-K-2 students. Support the campaign by signing our petition at mac.nysut.org or nysut.org/recessfromtests. Many thanks to Eva Cieloszyk, Mandy Gersten, Kathy Marron, Christina Reidel, and Jim Agnello for their contributions to Project Share in support of our BTA bowling teams. And, thank you to our BTA bowlers - Dana Landesman, Stephanie Grohowski, Bob Devlin, Roseann Silves, and Katie Brosnahan (who, with 110, bowled our team's high score). Jeff Zuckerman and Clare Gorman also stopped by. It was so great to hang out with our NYSUT brothers and sisters from Rockland, Westchester, Orange, and Putnam Counties (and also NYSUT Vice Presidents Maria Neira and Andy Pallotta and NYSUT Secretary-Treasurer Lee Cutler) while raising more than $9,000 for Project Share.

Click the link above for a flyer regarding a deal at Crossfit Yorktown. Thanks, Dana Landesman, for sending this our way. The Bronxville Trust is holding a meeting at 3:00 to discuss, further, the impact of the Affordable Health Care Act on the Trust.
The District and the BTA are meeting at 4:30 for our second negotiation session of the school year. And, there will also be a 3:00 meeting in room B305 of interested members to talk about the BTA End-of-Year Party. All are welcome. |
