Here's an Update from Mike Grubiak, NYSUT's Regional Political Action Coordinator

Thank you to all of our members and activists who became involved in local elections around the region.
With over 150 NYSUT volunteers we made 7,526 phone calls or door knocks and had conversations with 883 NYSUT members to discuss our 6 local candidates who were endorsed for their pro-public education stance in the month of October.
After the dust has settled we won:
  • Dutchess County Leg- Craig Brendli- Poughkeepsie MS Teacher
    • Won by 150 votes
  • Wappingers Town Supervisor: Greg Quinn- UFT Member
    • Won by 12 Votes
  • Dutchess County Leg-: Hannah Black
    • Won by 55%

    • We also worked to elect Andrew Falk to Patterson Town Supervisor where after the absentee ballots have been counted we narrowly lost by 18 votes.

Billiards Bonanza

Join Me on January 14!

The Rockland County Teachers' Association has invited us to join them in a fund raiser for United Hospice of Rockland.

Thursday, January 14

It's a BILLIARDS BONANZA at Diamond Jim's in Nanuet (it's really easy to get to).  We sent a team last year (Joyce Myers, Christina Reidel, and me), and our team had a fantastic time (we didn't win the coveted Golden Cue trophy (we didn't even come close!)).

The RCTA is asking for a donation from the local for each team (the BTA will support each team with a donation), and a donation from each attendee ($20, which buys raffle tickets for lots of fun stuff).

All the proceeds benefit the United Hospice of Rockland County (UHR). The UHR provides care, hope, comfort and improved quality of life to individuals and their families facing serious illness. They offer compassionate support to members of our community who have experienced the loss of a loved one. The UHR led the health and human services community in improving the provision of care to those affected by serious illness.

Let me know as soon as possible if you are interested in being on our BTA team.
