Have you been paying attention to the news around the start of the Mets season?
Daniel Murphy, an infielder for the New York Mets, is getting some heat from sportscasters for taking time to be with his wife and newborn son. Major League baseball players are entitled to take up to three days paternity leave on the birth of a child. This right was collectively bargained for them by the Major League Baseball Players Association, the union that represents the players in their contract negotiations with Major League Baseball. Here, in Bronxville, teachers do not have maternity or paternity leave, we have a collectively bargained child-rearing leave. Any parent can take time under the provisions of our contract to take care of a child. Here is a case where the benefits of being a Bronxville teacher outweigh those of Major Lea Comments are closed.
