Unit Work by Unit Members

9/4/2016

It is a violation of New York State's Taylor Law and puts all our jobs at risk when the district hires individuals outside of our bargaining units whose work belongs inside our units.  If you see someone in our building doing work that resembles what you and your colleagues do, let me know right away.

Your Contract

9/4/2016

Be on the alert for violations of our contract.  Let David Katz or your school liaison know if you experience something that does not seem quite right.  Don't assume we already know about it.

Breast and Prostate Cancer Screening

Don't forget...

Civil Service Law allows all employees of school districts (and other public entities) in New York State up to 4 hours of paid leave time each year to be screened for breast or prostate cancer.  This time cannot be charged against your sick, personal, vacation, or flex time.

A Reminder about Contract Language

9/3/2016

Union Representation Means...

The terms and conditions of our employment were negotiated between the Bronxville Teachers' Association and the school district.

No administrator may unilaterally change these negotiated agreements; and no teacher can agree to exceptions to these agreements.  If an administrator asks you to do something that is contrary to our contract language (or if you suspect it might be), let David Katz or your school liaison know, so the BTA can engage in negotiations with the district about these potential exceptions to contract language.

Cancer Screening

9/3/2016

Here's a reminder:

Civil Service Law §159-b (as of July 2008) allows all employees of school districts (and other public entities) in New York State up to 4 hours of paid leave time each year to be screened for breast or prostate cancer.  This time cannot be charged against your sick time or personal time.

Thank you, Veronica!

Picture
Veronica Fiore (in the middle in the group shot on the left) organized our eight volunteer opportunities this year at the Hope Soup Kitchen in New Rochelle.  Here is Veronica with Carol Fata (also below, preparing dessert), Roseanne Silves, Stephanie Grohowski and Julia Brogan.  Thank you to all of those who gave a couple of hours to be of service in our community this year.
