NYSUT has coordinated the collection and delivery of tons of food and supplies to storm damaged areas, as well as services and benefits information. This week, we delivered food and supplies to locals and community groups in Coney Island, Long Beach and Freeport.
A busload of volunteers is going to help cleanup efforts on Staten Island tomorrow -- the second bus since last Saturday.
SRP leaders attending their annual conference last weekend in Cooperstown donated supplies that were delivered to Long Beach.
Check out the December NYSUT United to learn more about what locals and members have been doing. From the NYSUT news blog, here's another rundown of how local unions have mobilized.
At this point in the recovery effort, the most important and effective way for local unions to contribute is through NYSUT's Disaster Relief Fund. Donations will assist members who lost their homes or who are trying to repair damage. For information about how to donate, visitwww.nysut.org/disasterrelief.
