I have already sent an email to SAEA president Mary Yohe expressing the support of her Brothers and Sisters of the Bronxville Teachers' Association. You might do the same. Hopefully, our support will help them all stay warm on the picket lines this week.
Please be advised that Shamokin Area Education Association (SAEA) (IU 16- Northumberland County) 183 Bargaining Unit members will be on strike starting Wednesday, January 20, 2016. The school board voted against the non-binding arbitration decision at their meeting this evening. SAEA voted on Thursday, January 14 to accept the non-binding arbitration decision, which favored SAEAs issues. This will be a continuation of their first strike that went from September 8 to September 28, 2015. They returned to the classrooms on September 28 by court order. They have been working without a contract since 2013. Main issues to date: the school board has rejected the Fact-Finder's decision, in which SAEA voted to accept, which then led to the strike in September. Now, the school board voted against the non-binding arbitration decision. SAEA are among the lowest paid educators in the state.
